 Robber's Roost - 09/21/04

09/24/04

Robber's Roost is a half-mile, rather easy hike that we enjoyed on a chilly first-day-of-fall morning.  The trail is named after its alleged use as a secluded hiding place by Mexican banditos.  It's a box canyon with a single entrance and high walls - some with cave-like openings.

The trail starts rather easy, then progresses into a boulder "stairway" with high steps that might challenge young children.  It gets a little steep at the end of the canyon, but the scenery is good and you discover an alternate path down.  The entire elevation gain is only 200 feet, so this is a good, easy family hike.

Following are pictures with some comments.

Wildflowers still bloom at 8500 feet in late September.

July's "Robbers" fire burned many acres.
